Angus Lee

Taiwanese handpan player Angus Lee brings melodic performance, collaborations and musical exchange together through his work with SoulDays Studio in Taipei.

Angus Lee, also known as Lee Cheng-Yu, is a handpan player from Taiwan and the founder of SoulDays Studio in Taipei. He obtained his first handpan in 2015 after discovering the instrument online several years earlier, and initially developed his playing through self-directed exploration. His musical approach connects melody, rhythm and a soft, precise touch. Travel and encounters with other musicians have helped shape this practice. At SoulDays, performance sits alongside teaching, instrument presentation and exchanges with players and makers from abroad. The studio describes its work as a way to support a growing local handpan community. Angus also collaborates beyond solo performance, with projects involving singers, dance and projected imagery. His recorded collaborations include handpan on Ren, a track on Takako's second album, Moon Dance. These activities connect his individual playing with shared musical projects and the transmission of handpan culture.
