David Lesage

French musician David Lesage brings voice, handpan and percussion together, and develops visual tools for learning acoustic and electronic handpans.

David Lesage is a French singer, percussionist and handpan player. He began drumming as a child, later studied in Marciac and Toulouse, and received a conservatory drum prize in 2013. His musical practice brings the voice together with handpan, calabash and ngoni, while his recordings combine acoustic instruments and electronic production. He appeared on season eleven of The Voice with Kothbiro, and a performance at the HONA gathering on Naxos was filmed for FeelU. His catalogue includes the two parts of L’alliance du phoenix, Je te vois and Le tisseur de liens. His work with Yishama led to two eighteen-note instruments designed to accompany his singing; he also plays and demonstrates the electronic Neotone. Teaching is another part of his activity, through individual lessons and Handpan Constellation Studio, a visual approach using colours and geometry to explore notes and chords. His projects connect performance, instrumental exploration and the practical tools he wished he had when learning music.
