Gerard Spencer

Handpan musician Gérard Spencer, originally from Luxembourg, combines a piano background with didgeridoo, percussion, ensemble playing and teaching.

Originally from Luxembourg, Gérard Spencer discovered the Hang beside the Thames in London. His earlier piano practice became part of an approach that combines melody with the simultaneous use of handpan, didgeridoo and foot percussion. Wonderlhang brings his playing into dialogue with JessieCherry, extending the solo setting through interlocking rhythms and melodies. Teaching is another strand of his work: in 2023 he founded the Spencer Handpan Academy with his brother Laurent, offering classes and workshops. His recordings connect composition and improvisation. Released by Prima Classic in 2023, Ode au Handpan contains ten composed pieces and two improvised ones, recorded at Onda Estudio in Barcelona. Its catalogue includes Berceuse d'Hiver and Valse Nostalgique. Walk to Infinity followed in 2025, with pieces including South Love, Deep Dive and Hokkaido; the single Elaisa appeared in 2026. Together, these projects document his work across solo performance, musical collaboration and education.
