Jajouli
Jajouli is the channel of musician and instrument designer Chris Andersen, sharing handpans, tuned percussion and experimental instruments.
Chris Andersen’s work connects instrument design, performance and a longstanding interest in Balinese gamelan. Based in the United States, he began travelling to Bali in 2001 and developed Bali Steel Pan with Ketut Suda and Ngenah Resna in the village of Manuk. Their work brought steelpan construction together with local musical traditions and later expanded into handpans. Andersen also builds marimbas, tuned percussion and experimental instruments; his shop documents this work in Kingston, New York. With Terence Jay of Acolyte Instruments, he developed the Euphonic Array, a friction-played instrument combining glass and metal elements. His Jajouli channel presents demonstrations of handpans in different scales alongside chimes and euphonics. These recordings reflect a practice that extends beyond a single instrument, exploring how construction, tuning and playing methods shape sound.
