Loris Lombardo

Italian percussionist, handpan player, teacher and instrument maker whose work connects concert performance, rhythmic research and practical handpan education.

As fast as I could with my voice—Lombardo Handpan D minor, 14 notes.

Born in Savona in 1985, Loris Lombardo is a percussionist, composer, handpan performer and maker. He studied classical percussion at the G. F. Ghedini Conservatory in Cuneo and developed his drumming through further training, before exploring Indian, Turkish and Middle Eastern percussion traditions. This background informs an approach that brings different rhythmic techniques and instrumental colours to the handpan. His solo Handpan & Percussion Concert has travelled to European theatres. Alongside performing, he directs and teaches at the Handpan & Percussion Academy and leads workshops, connecting instrumental foundations with techniques drawn from other percussion instruments. In 2017 he published Handpan Manuale Completo. He launched Lombardo Handpan in 2018, extending his work from playing and teaching to instrument making. His career also includes television performances and collaborations with musicians from different acoustic and contemporary settings.
