Mael Chauvet

Maël Chauvet is a composer, handpan player and harpist based in Brittany, France.

Maël Chauvet is a composer, producer and harpist based in Brocéliande, Brittany. A former turntablist, he began playing handpan in 2014 and makes concert performance the centre of his musical work. His solo sets bring together several handpans and an electric Celtic harp. He describes using three handpans to move beyond the instrument’s intuitive patterns, and has played instruments made by the Breton maker Baopan since 2018. Alongside his solo performances, he plays in the duos Adag’nan, Tatcha and K-Ambre. His wider collaborations include Berry Weight, Beatween, Leames, Dodjoma and Inqiteka, connecting his work as an instrumentalist with production and scratching. His catalogue includes the solo releases Schiste d’émeraude and Fenêtre ouverte, as well as projects such as Adag’nan’s Signes & Racines and Tatcha’s Animyst Waka. He also gives concerts in private homes and offers introductory handpan sessions. Improvisation has a place in his performances for private events and ceremonies, alongside his composed repertoire.
