Mumi

Italian singer, pianist, handpan player, maker and teacher whose lyrical performances combine tuned steel with voice and a broad classical background.

Mumi is an Italian multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, handpan player, educator and maker. Her musical education began with classical piano in early childhood and later expanded into music theory, singing and choral performance, including work as a soprano in operatic settings. She encountered the handpan around 2010 and gradually made it central to an artistic practice that combines melody, rhythm and voice. Her performances include original pieces, arrangements and covers, often using the instrument as a harmonic foundation for song-like expression. Mumi has performed and taught internationally and co-founded Elaia Handpans with Alessandro, linking her experience as a player to the process of creating instruments. That combination gives her work an unusually complete perspective: she approaches the handpan as performer, teacher, composer and maker while retaining the phrasing and sensitivity of a trained singer and pianist.
