Sebastian von Duering

Sebastian von Duering is a German handpan composer, performer and mentor whose approach builds on a background in drumming and music education.

Sebastian von Duering began drumming at nine and performed with his first band at twelve. He studied drums in Düsseldorf, Los Angeles and Hamburg before working across rock, pop, jazz, metal and electronic music. Teaching led him to open a rock and pop music school in Hamburg and to train in communication and learning facilitation. The handpan later became a new means of personal expression, bringing his rhythmic background into composition and solo performance. His debut album Back to New Roots contains seven original pieces; his published performances also include handpan interpretations of Children and Una Mattina. Alongside concerts and recordings, he offers mentoring and workshops that connect technique, musical structure and individual expression. His teaching draws on stage experience as well as a sustained interest in how people learn, helping players shape their own musical direction.
