Severin Schmitz

German handpan composer and performer whose original releases, live concerts and guided jams balance melody, tension, rhythm and improvisation.

Severin Schmitz is a German handpan composer and performer whose official channel documents original compositions, the album Imperfect Melodies and live concert recordings. His music moves between memorable melodic figures, rhythmic development, improvisation and deliberately restrained arrangements. Live recordings also show collaborative work with other musicians in the German handpan community. Released on 14 February 2024, Imperfect Melodies brings together nine tracks with a total playing time of about forty minutes. Titles including Uphill, Borders, Home and Serenity provide concrete entry points into his recorded work. Alongside his activity as a recording artist, the Wild Naya Academy presents him as a leader of guided handpan jams, describing an approach that combines energy, tension and economy of means. This role places collective improvisation alongside his solo compositions: listeners can encounter his music on recordings, while participants in a guided jam meet the instrument through shared playing.
