Johann Immanuel is a German handpan artist, educator and mentor whose work presents the instrument as a path toward attention, emotional clarity and connection. After discovering the handpan, he developed a style based on patient improvisation, recurring melodic shapes and a calm sense of pulse. His public practice includes performances, workshops and retreats, as well as teaching within the wider Malte Marten Method community. Rather than separating musical technique from personal experience, Immanuel encourages players to use touch and listening as foundations for both. His own recordings and live sessions are generally spacious and meditative, with the instrument allowed to resonate fully before new material is introduced. The result is an accessible but focused approach in which simplicity is not treated as a lack of skill, but as a deliberate means of creating room for reflection and shared presence.
