Mar Loi

Canary Islands-born handpan artist, composer and teacher whose emotionally direct work blends acoustic playing, voice, electronics, collaboration and community learning.

Mar Loi is a handpan artist and composer from the Canary Islands who is based in Girona. She began playing in 2017, developing through self-directed practice and street performance before making music her central professional path. Her work combines handpan with voice, electronics and collaborative instrumentation, moving between intimate reflection, rhythmic intensity and experimental texture. Releases including Mercury Found Mars, JOI, Grises and Arrels document an evolving language rather than one fixed style. Alongside concerts and festivals, she teaches through workshops, retreats and community projects, and has contributed to initiatives that connect players beyond the stage. Her previous experience as a child facilitator and physical-education professional also informs an accessible, embodied approach to learning. The result is expressive, exploratory and strongly rooted in human connection.
