Nadishana

Composer, multi-instrumentalist and instrument designer whose progressive handpan music combines odd metres, global traditions and experimental sound design.

Nadishana is a Siberian-born composer, multi-instrumentalist, educator and designer of experimental acoustic instruments. Working with a collection of more than two hundred instruments, he develops a form of contemporary world fusion built from handpans, woodwinds, percussion, electronics and what he calls sound microsurgery. His music is distinguished by unusual metres, changing tonal centres, split-hand techniques, polyphonic thinking and detailed arrangement. Rather than treating the handpan primarily as a meditative object, Nadishana explores its capacity for progressive composition, tension, modulation and ensemble interaction. He performs solo and in projects such as Nadishana–Somos, collaborates internationally and teaches advanced concepts through Handpan Dojo. His work is especially valuable for listeners and players interested in the border between traditional timbres, newly invented instruments and highly structured contemporary composition.
